Nova Scotia RCMP have ended the detour on Highway 102 that forced southbound drivers to take Highway 2 on Wednesday night, but the nearby bridge remains closed after it was hit by a snowplow.

RCMP closed the lanes heading to Halifax between Exit 10 at Shubenacadie and Exit 11 at Stewiacke, but traffic is now running smoothly, reported the CBC's Angela MacIvor.

Provincial officials have created two-way traffic on what is usually the two lanes heading north.

Department of Transportation spokeswoman Pam Menchenton said a snowplow operator clipped the side of the bridge near Shubenacadie around 10 p.m.

Transportation crews inspected the bridge on Thursday morning and said it won't reopen for a few more days.

The bridge has been under construction for months.
