Cape Breton police are warning people in North Sydney about a high risk offender in their community.

Leonard Joseph Groves, 28,  was released from a federal penitentiary on Thursday after serving more than three years for aggravated assault, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, uttering threats and mischief.

Because of his high-risk status Groves has a number of conditions on his release. He's not allowed to have weapons and must stay away from alcohol and drugs.

Police are warning the public, but said they won't tolerate any kind of vigilante behaviour.
