The Halifax Regional Municipality is instituting a winter parking ban early Monday morning as it anticipates the city will be hit with snow, followed by freezing rain and rain.

The city is also warning that driving conditions will become poor overnight, and there will be ice and localized flooding.

Vehicles will not be allowed to park on streets between 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. Monday.

The city says it will need the roads cleared of vehicles so snow plows can get to work moving snow and slush to the curb and away from catch basins.

"A cold spell is forecasted over the next couple of days, therefore the overnight cleanup will be very important prior to expected freezing temperatures," a news release from the city says.

The city also notes that under the Motor Vehicle Act vehicles can be ticketed or towed away if they interfere with the work of snow plows.
