Halifax to replace Alderney ferries
Current ferries, 40 years old, must be replaced
Halifax is getting two more ferries to replace the ferries currently operating between Alderney and Halifax.
The new ferries announced are in addition to Metro Transit's newest ferry, Christopher Stannix, that was added to the fleet this week to help expand the Woodside run.
Transit officials said the ferries that operate between Alderney and Halifax are nearly 40 years old and have to be replaced soon.
A tender was issued last month. Staff are recommending a bid worth almost $9 million for two vessels by A.F. Theriault & Son.
If it's approved by council next week, the first ferry will be ready in 2015 and the second one is expected to arrive in April 2018.
