The Halifax municipal government is offering free swimming lessons at all of its municipal beaches and the Halifax Common outdoor pool this summer.

Bronze medallion, bronze cross and junior lifeguard programs are also included.

Four sessions will be offered and registration for the first two begins on June 11 at 10 a.m. Registration will continue until the classes are filled.

There are three registration options. People can:

  • Call 490-6666 to register
  • Register in person at any municipally-operated community recreation centre
  • Register online with a RecConnect account.

For people who just want to head to the beach, all of HRM's beaches are supervised with certified lifeguards beginning July 1 until August 31, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
