Halifax’s North Park Street is closed for five weeks as a major intersection gets turned into a roundabout.
Jennifer Stairs, spokeswoman for the city, says the street near the Armoury is blocked at both ends as they build the northern roundabout to Agricola Street.
“Crews on site will be able to accommodate access for the local residents. I believe there's one business on that particular stretch as well,” she said.
People heading for the Armoury will also be granted access.
Rod MacInnis’s mortgage business is on the edge of the work. He knows he’s in for a summer and early fall of inconvenience. “Oh, we'll be fine with it I'm sure,” he said.
He thinks the end result will be worth the trouble. “I've been watching and waiting for it. I went to the initial meetings and if you look at the overall city plan, it's part of the progression.”
Stairs said pedestrians and cyclists should travel on the Halifax Common trail, as the east sidewalk of North Park will also be closed.
After the first five-week phase, North Park Street will be closed in sections, along with some side streets. Crews will work Mondays to Saturdays until the end of October.
A second roundabout, at North Park and Cogswell Street, will be built next summer.
