A 35-year-old Halifax man faces charges of assault and resisting arrest following an incident downtown early Friday morning.

Halifax police say they watched a fight on the corner of Prince and Argyle streets around 3:45 a.m., just outside of Cheers Bar and Grill.

One man had apparently asked a passerby for directions when he was punched.

Police chased the suspect until he eventually stopped on Grafton Street.

While trying to subdue the suspect, one officer injured his leg and had to be taken to hospital by ambulance.
