An independent incident response team is investigating an allegation of domestic violence against a member of the Halifax Regional Police.

Police say they responded to a 911 call Thursday at 8:30 a.m. from a woman who alleged that her husband assaulted her.

The officer was arrested, but no charges had been laid and he was released on conditions for an appearance in provincial court on Feb. 19.

In accordance with the Police Act, the police referred the incident to the Serious Incident Response Team, which will conduct the investigation.

The team investigates serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia and is under the direction of an independent civilian director.

It is required to file a public report within three months after concluding its investigation.
