A Halifax pedestrian got hit with a double dose of bad news today. The 22-year-old man was crossing Barrington Street in a marked crosswalk this morning and was hit by a vehicle.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital and is expected to survive his injuries.

An investigation by Halifax Regional Police found the pedestrian ran across the sidewalk and did not leave enough time for the motorist to stop.

Because of this, the pedestrian was issued a summary offence ticket for moving into the path of a vehicle when it is impractical for the vehicle to stop. The ticket comes with a fine of $406.45.

Police are reminding motorists and pedestrians that road safety is a shared responsibility. Pedestrians should make eye contact with drivers and wait until vehicles come to a complete stop before attempting to cross the road at marked crosswalks.
