Halifax Common pool, Pavilion, getting upgrades after summer
Much-needed work will start in the fall
Long-needed work on the Halifax Common pool and performance space will start in the fall and early 2015, the city said Wednesday.
The splash pad and pool on the common were built in 1967. The Pavilion, a concert spot for young people, needs work too.
Halifax council approved $445,000 in upgrades in April. Work on the splash pad and pool will start in fall, so as to not disrupt the summer swimming season. Work on the building, including new change rooms, will start in early 2015.
"We have features that we can update and reinvest in to make the facility look nicer and a better amenity for residents to use," said Richard MacLellan, a manager at Halifax Regional Municipality.
More work could come in a few years when the city draws a master plan for the common.
