Two men and a woman face charges after a theft and internet sting turned up stolen items in Halifax.
On Monday evening, Halifax Regional Police were called to Long Lake Provincial Park, off the St Margaret’s Bay Road.
Two campers reported they had their backpacks stolen after putting them down to look for a spot to pitch their tent. Officers searched the scene but didn’t find suspects or the stolen packs.
On Tuesday, the campers contacted police again after seeing their stolen items for sale on a local classified website. A meeting was arranged for later in the day with the sellers.
Police moved in and made the arrests when the sellers arrived at the meeting location.
A 47-year-old woman and two men, age 19 and 20, face charges of theft under $5,000, possession of stolen goods under $5,000 and trafficking property obtained by crime. Police say they were in possession of the stolen items.
All three have been released from custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date. They have been ordered to stay away from all parks and beaches.
