Halifax cabbie charged with sexual assault
Driver accused of grabbing woman on Parkland Drive
Police have charged a Halifax taxi driver with sexual assault this week over an incident downtown.
At 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 18, a 39-year-old woman and her friend got into a taxi on Lower Water Street and headed to Parkland Drive.
"Upon exiting the cab, the driver reached out and grabbed her buttocks," said Const. Pierre Bourdages.
"When she informed the driver that this was inappropriate, he apologized for his actions, refused payment and quickly left the area."
Police learned the name of a 32-year-old man they suspect was driving the cab on Wednesday. He turned himself in to police Thursday.
He was released under conditions and his taxi driver's licence has been suspended. He's due in court Oct. 8 to answer to the charge.
Police did not release his name, nor the name of the taxi company he works for.
