A Glace Bay man was airlifted to Halifax hospital with serious head and facial injuries after he was assaulted by a man with a baseball bat on Tuesday morning, say Cape Breton Regional Police.

Officers went to an apartment building on York Street in Glace Bay at 11:20 a.m. after getting several calls about people being assaulted by a man with a bat.

A man and a woman — both 19 years old — were taken to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

The man was later airlifted to Halifax for further treatment while the woman remains in Cape Breton Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, said police.

Officers found the suspect nearby and arrested a 32-year-old man. He lives in the building and knows the victims, said police.

The baseball bat was located on McLean Street.

No charges have been laid.

A neighbour told CBC News the attack followed an argument over a missing cellphone.
