Nearly 700 Nova Scotia Power customers in North Sydney, N.S., are without power after garbage truck clipped an electrical wire and pulled down two utility poles Saturday morning.

The accident happened shortly after 7 a.m. on Blowers Street. There were no injuries, but at least one of the utility poles is snapped.

"There’s a large section of power out in North Sydney at this time," said Sgt. Geoff MacLeod, with the Cape Breton Regional Police. "We have emergency crews on scene — police, fire and Nova Scotia Power."

Nova Scotia Power crews are working to restore electricity to all customers by 5 p.m.
