Fisherman dies after being hit by anchor, pulled overboard
Richard MacMillan Hiltz, 40, was a crewman aboard fishing boat Nip n' Tuck
Nova Scotia RCMP are investigating after a 40-year-old fisherman from Shelburne County died Sunday night in a fishing accident near Georges Bank.
Richard MacMillan Hiltz, 40, was a crewman on the fishing boat Nip n' Tuck. He was from Port Clyde.
RCMP Sgt. Ben Parry said police got a call Sunday night at approximately 9:30 p.m. that there had been an accident on board the boat.
"One of the members of the crew had been struck in the back of the head by an anchor and pulled overboard," he said Monday.
"He was recovered by the crew who performed CPR on him, however they were unable to revive him."
The boat arrived at West Head, on Cape Sable Island, at 7:45 a.m. on Monday morning.
Parry said an autopsy is pending and police do not suspect foul play. Both the RCMP and the Department of Labour and Advanced Education are investigating.
