Halifax firefighters pulled double duty Monday afternoon, responding to both a car crash and a house fire in the same area of the city.

Halifax Regional Fire crews were at a car crash on Main Avenue at around 4 p.m. when they saw smoke billowing out a nearby house.

By the time they got there, the family was already outside.

They weren't injured, but a firefighter did cut his hand on some glass.

Fire officials said there's damage in the basement and the wiring is destroyed.

Security is monitoring the house overnight and investigators are expected to return to the scene on Tuesday.
