A newly released audit of the federal funding spent by the Attawapiskat First Nation in Ontario has renewed interest in the money transferred to aboriginal communities across Nova Scotia.
There are 13 First Nations band councils in Nova Scotia that receive money from the federal government for a variety of reasons, including economic development, community infrastructure and government support.
Those bands represent nearly 15,000 people.
In the first two quarters of the 2012-2013 fiscal year, the federal government transferred $58,293,926 to Nova Scotia bands.
