Nova Scotia RCMP now say two tractor-trailers were involved in a fatal crash that killed a six-year-old girl on the Cobequid Pass on Monday evening.

The accident happened at 6:15 p.m. when a tractor-trailer heading eastbound on the Trans-Canada Highway made contact with a van towing a trailer, which was also heading eastbound.

The van then crashed into a second tractor-trailer, said police.

A six-year-old girl in the van died at the scene of the accident, just east of the Oxford exit. Three others travelling in the van were injured in the crash and taken to Colchester Regional Hospital and later released.

RCMP will not confirm the relationship of the victim to the other people in the van, but sources tell CBC News the van was carrying a family relocating from Ontario to Nova Scotia.

One of the tractor-trailers remained in the median for most of Tuesday.
