Fatal Acadia Street fire ruled accidental
Daniel MacLellan, 92, died in blaze that broke out in north-end Halifax
A house fire in north-end Halifax that killed a 92-year-old man last month was an accident, Halifax Regional Police said Wednesday.
Daniel MacLellan died Oct. 24 in the blaze at his Acadia Street home. Halifax Regional Police subsequently arrested a 49-year-old man, but released him without charges.
On Wednesday, police announced an investigation had determined the fire was an accident. They did not reveal the cause of the fire, but said it started in the kitchen.
Halifax Regional Police said an autopsy found MacLellan died from smoke inhalation.
