Halifax Regional Police say charges have been laid against a teenager in connection with an incident that involved an officer firing a gun.

Police say no one was hurt in the incident, which happened early Friday in Dartmouth.

Police say officers were conducting a traffic stop on Pleasant Street as part of an ongoing investigation when they were confronted by a man with a firearm.

Const.  Pierre Bourdages said that's when the unnamed officer fired the weapon.

He said Cape Breton Regional Police will oversee a review of the officer's actions.

Four men and a woman were arrested and taken in for questioning.  An 18-year-old from Eastern Passage is due in court Monday on seven firearm-related charges.

Two other men who were arrested are also expected to appear in court Monday to face charges on unrelated matters.

The other man and woman who were arrested were released without charges.
