A house caught on fire in Eastern Passage, N.S., Sunday afternoon.

Dave Meldrum, a Halifax fire chief, said crews were in a "defensive strategy" attacking the fire from outside the building on Romkey Drive. 

"We have a significant structure fire in a residential home on Romkey Drive," he said at about 4:30 p.m. "There is a lot of fire in the structure."

The house was badly damaged by the fire. Police said nobody was home.

More than 2,100 Nova Scotia Power were without power because of the fire.
