Police have charged a man with impaired driving causing death after a woman died when their jeep plunged through the ice on a pond near Mosherville, N.S.

RCMP say they responded to a 911 call late Thursday. They did not say who made the emergency call.

When officers arrived at the scene off North River Road in Hants County, the vehicle was submerged and a woman was trapped inside.

She was eventually pulled from the water with the help of firefighters from the Windsor area.

The woman was pronounced dead at Hants County Community Hospital.

RCMP confirmed Monday they have charged 36-year-old Steve Douglas Saunders of Mosherville.

The vehicle was a 1986 Suzuki Samurai. The area is popular for all-terrain vehicles and off-roading.
