Halifax Regional Police are asking for help to find a suspect who punched a man outside The Toothy Moose bar and left him with a broken jaw.

According to police, at 3:56 a.m. on June 15, a 24-year-old man was standing outside the Toothy Moose bar on Argyle Street with two women. He was approached by the suspect who pushed his way past the women and punched the victim as he walked by.

Police say the assault happened without provocation and the victim fell to the ground with serious facial injuries, including a broken jaw.

The suspect ran away from the scene with a woman.

Friends of the victim took him to hospital for treatment and police were contacted later in the day.

Police describe the suspect as a black man in his 20s, five feet,10 inches tall with a small build. At the time of the assault, he was wearing a black shirt, brown shorts, black sneakers and white socks.

Police have released photographs of the man taken from video surveillance in the area.
