The RCMP say an officer shot and killed a dog while police were trying to arrest a man in a home in Murray Siding, Colchester County.
Police went to the home after a woman said she was threatened by a man with a gun around 5:30 Sunday morning.
Officers found the man at the front door. Police said the man was asking the officers to shoot him.
But the man wouldn’t show his hands to the officers, police said. They used an stun gun on the suspect.
While two officers were arresting the man, police said a dog attempted to attack a third officer. The officer shot the dog in the shoulder. But the animal, which police describe as a mixed-breed pit bull type, went after the officer again.
Police said another shot was fired and the dog died.
Police said they searched the house that night and found marijuana and cash.
A 25-year-old man has been charged with several counts including:
- Uttering threats
- Assault with a weapon
- Careless use of a firearm
- Pointing a firearm
- Possession with the purpose of trafficking
