Dingle, Penhorn beaches closed
High bacteria levels shut HRM spots
Two Halifax-area beaches are currently closed due to high bacteria levels.
Dingle Beach in Fleming Park and Penhorn Beach in Dartmouth were both closed by the city on Thursday.
Springfield Beach in Sackville was closed earlier this month due to high bacteria levels but has since reopened.
HRM spokeswoman Jennifer Stairs said the municipality doesn't know what is responsible for the high levels and will not investigate the cause unless the high levels continue for more than a week.
Stairs said HRM tests all municipal beaches weekly and when high levels are identified, the area is tested daily until levels drop.
Halifax Water spokesman James Campbell says all of their systems are operating as they should be.
The municipality will advise residents when the beaches reopen.
