Police have released the name of the fisherman who died early Monday after breaking ice off of South Stonehurst, N.S.

Elburn Leo Tanner was 79.

His body was found in the water near his boat around 5:15 a.m., after a search.

Tanner was spotted out in his boat breaking ice in Rock Lane Cove on Sunday night.

Fishermen in the area said ice moved into the cove during the last storm and they have to break it up or risk being trapped on shore for the rest of the fishing season.
