Dartmouth man drowns in Farnell Lake
A 57-year-old Dartmouth, N.S., man is dead after a fishing trip near Upper Musquodoboit.
The man was reporting missing by his friend on Monday evening, at a boat launch near 712 Pleasant Valley Rd. at Farnell Lake.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Scott Warnica said the pair had gone to Pleasant Valley on a fishing trip.
"The showed up to the boat. They didn't have any oars so one of them said, 'OK, I'll go get the oars and I'll be right back.' He took the vehicle, got the oars," said Warnica.
When the friend came back to the boat launch, the boat was in the water, a short distance from the shore.
"His friend was missing," said Warnica.
Although they had no confirmation that the man had fallen into the water, Warnica said emergency crews assumed that's where he was and began the search there. His body was found approximately five metres from shore in shallow water at 8:10 p.m.
"It took approximately two hours of trying to locate him in the water before they were actually successful in retrieving his body," Warnica said.
The boat had not capsized and was floating freely at the time the man was reported missing, said RCMP. Foul play is not suspected.
The victim's name has not been released.
