A cyclist in her 30s has been hit and killed by a vehicle at the intersection of Windmill Road and Albro Lake Road in Dartmouth.

Halifax Regional Police were called to the scene at 2:56 p.m. with a report of a collision between a transport truck and a cyclist. 

Both the truck and cyclist were heading North on Windmill Road. The truck began to turn right on Albro Lake Road when the collision occurred. 

Const. Pierre Bourdages of the Halifax Regional Police said the cyclist was a woman in her 30s. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have yet to identify the woman. 

"Accident reconstruction, medical examiners, forensic identification section and numerous officers are on scene trying to determine what happened here," said Bourdages.

"The driver is very shaken up, it was a serious collision with tragic consequences," he said.

​Nicole Donovan witnessed the collision. She said she could not tell if the cyclist was trying to turn or not. 

"The next thing I know he hit her, ran over her full force, and I think she was dead on the spot," said Donovan.

"I've never seen something like that and hopefully I don't have to see something like that again."

Bourdages said for the remainder of the afternoon they will be speaking with witnesses and reconstructing the collision in the intersection. 

Traffic is being diverted from the area as police investigate. Albro Lake Road and Windmill Road are closed in all directions.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision or who witnessed the collision to come forward.
