Crosby named Olympic torchbearer
Penguins captain 1 of 12,000 who will carry flame heading into Vancouver Games
Sidney Crosby will carry the Olympic torch in Halifax next month.
The Pittsburgh Penguins captain is honoured and thrilled to carry the flame through his home province on Nov. 18, the team said in a statement Tuesday.
"The torch relay will pass through so many communities and hands on the way to Vancouver and I’m privileged to be part of that special group," said Crosby.
Crosby, from Cole Harbour, is one of 12,000 torchbearers taking the flame across Canada in time for t/he Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics in February.
The torch relay began Thursday from ancient Olympia in Greece. The Canadian leg begins in Victoria on Friday.
The flame is scheduled to pass from Newfoundland and Labrador to Cape Breton on Nov. 16. It will pass through several Nova Scotia communities over four days.
