A car crash Sunday evening in north-end Halifax shut down a major intersection and sent five people to hospital.

At around 5:30 p.m., first responders were called to a crash at the intersection of Robie and Young streets.

Police say a military police car had its emergency lights on and was responding to a call when it crashed into a blue Honda. The military car was sent into the corner of a house, while a third car also struck the Honda.

The five people who were taken to hospital were assessed for what police described as minor or non-life threatening injuries.

The intersection was closed for a few hours while Halifax Regional Police traffic investigators worked at the scene.
