A 21-year-old man is facing charges after a woman in Cole Harbour was punched in the head and had her SUV stolen Tuesday night.

A 37-year-old woman and a female friend said they gave a man a ride from a fireworks show on Canada Day. When they were dropping him off on Taranaki Drive, the man demanded the woman's belongings.

When she didn't give him anything, the suspect punched her in the head, said police.

Cole Harbour RCMP were called at 11:17 p.m. after the two women abandoned their black SUV and ran to a residence on Greely Court to wait for police.

Officers located a suspect and said the 21-year-old man was unco-operative and resisted being arrested.

He's facing charges of robbery, assault, uttering threats, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and breach of a recognizance.

He's due to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on Wednesday.
