Halifax Regional Police are investigating after a car theft went wrong early this morning.

Police say someone was trying to steal a Volkswagen from a home on Purcells cove road at around 5 a.m.

The alleged thief was taking it down the steep curved driveway when his trouble began.

The car ended up on its roof on the shoulder of the road, partially blocking a lane of traffic.

Police shut the lane down while a tow truck removed the car.

Police have no description of a suspect but say their investigation continues.
