Halifax police have closed part of a main city street after a car hit a dump truck.

The crash happened on Oxford Street, near Oak Street, around 9 a.m. on Monday.

Police said a man who ran from the crash, apparently without any shoes, was arrested several blocks away.

The female driver of the dump truck was not injured.

Oxford will remain closed between Oak and Chebucto Road while police investigate. Buses that use Oxford Street are currently being detoured.
