Cape Breton shooting nets man attempted murder charge
Man, 24, is expected to survive gunshot wound to the leg
Cape Breton Regional Police have laid an attempted murder charge against a Point Aconi man after a shooting on Point Aconi Road early Thursday morning.
A 46-year-old man was arrested at his home Thursday following a 90-minute standoff with police.
Police were led to the home on Point Aconi Road after responding to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital where a 24-year-old man was admitted for a gunshot wound to the leg at around 3 a.m. Thursday.
Major Crime Unit investigators quickly surrounded the home and a negotiator was brought in to get the man to surrender. An hour and a half later, the accused gave himself up to police and was arrested without incident.
Police later executed a search warrant at both the accused's and the victim’s homes. They say they seized several items, and are continuing to investigate.
Police say this is not a random incident, as the two men know each other.
