Cape Breton lobster season delayed due to weather
Lobster season in Cape Breton’s Area 27 was supposed to open Saturday
After digging their traps out of the ice and snow and delays launching boats, lobster fishermen will delay their season opening until Tuesday.
The lobster season in Cape Breton’s area 27 from — Bay St. Lawrence down to Fourchu — was supposed to open Saturday.
But many fishermen weren't ready, with some still digging their gear out of the ice and snow following this winter's nasty weather.
The harsh winter and absence of a real spring also means boats are not getting launched on time.
May 10 is earlier than the historic opening in this area and this year it seems was the wrong one to push it up a week.
About 540 fishermen operate in area 27.
