Lt. Andrew F. Webster found dead last week while on shore leave in the Seychelles
The body of a Canadian sailor who was found dead while on shore leave in the Seychelles Islands in the Indian Ocean was returned Monday to Nova Scotia, where a private ceremony was held at the Halifax airport.
The Department of National Defence says the ceremony for family and friends of Lt. Andrew F. Webster took place at Halifax Stanfield International Airport around 2 p.m.
Webster was serving on board the frigate HMCS Toronto, which has been part of counterterrorism and anti-piracy operations in the Arabian Sea for most of this year.
The military says the 15-year member of the Canadian Armed Forces was found dead in his hotel room on Thursday afternoon.
Foul play is not suspected.
A military spokesman says a private military funeral will be held Saturday at the Woodland United Church in Dartmouth.
