Three people were sent to a hospital as a precaution after a fire at a Bridgewater home Monday morning.

Bridgewater police received a report of a structure fire at 3:45 a.m.

Sgt. David Ramey said police, fire and ambulance crews raced to the scene. When they arrived they found a home on fire and were told no one was inside the building.

Ramey said those other homes nearby had to be evacuated because there were propane tanks near the fire.

Fortunately there was no explosion and fire and firefighters were able to get the blaze under control quickly.

Fire gutted the home but the nearby structures were not damaged.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
