Police are investigating after a body was found Monday afternoon in the Pictou County town of Westville, southwest of New Glasgow.

Westville Police Chief Don Hussher confirmed a body was found in the Diamond Street area at about 3:20 p.m. Diamond Street is in the middle of the town.

Police have cordoned off an area of roughly 450 metres, said Hussher.

He would not say whether it is the body of a man or woman, who found it or if the person died under suspicious circumstances.

Investigators are on the scene, assisted by the RCMP Major Crime Unit.
