Police search Dartmouth woods where body was found

The Halifax Regional Police's forensic identification officers searched the woods near Pleasant Street in Dartmouth Sunday after a body was found in the area on Saturday afternoon.

The Halifax Regional Police's forensic identification officers searched the woods near Pleasant Street in Dartmouth Sunday after a body was found in the area on Saturday afternoon.

"It appears that the body has been there for some time as it is partially covered in snow," said Staff Sgt. Barb Saunders with the Halifax Regional Police.

The body was discovered in a wooded area near the 200 block of Pleasant Street around 3:30 p.m. yesterday and was removed from the woods around 7 p.m.  

Police are waiting for the medical examiners office to perform an autopsy. 

Authorities have not disclosed the identity, age or gender of the deceased. 

Saunders says the autopsy will be scheduled for later this week.
