Blue Nose Marathon course records broken by Kenyan pair

Runners and walkers have hit the streets of Halifax as the main event of the Blue Nose Marathon kicked off Sunday morning.

Two runners from Kenya broke Blue Nose Marathon course records Sunday morning.

Sarah Jebet won the women's marathon with a time of two hours 36 minutes. She is the first woman to run the Blue Nose Marathon in under three hours.

Phillip Biwott won the men's marathon with a time of two hours 27 minutes. His time was two minutes faster than the previous Blue Nose record.

Three Kenyan runners in Halifax on a cultural exchange competed in the Blue Nose.

Organizers have said they expected 16,000 walkers and runners during the two-day event, which started on Saturday with a 5K and a youth run.
