A former one-room schoolhouse along Highway 236 in Beaver Brook, N.S., was damaged in a fire Sunday.

The Cobequid District Fire Brigade responded after someone spotted smoke coming from the structure at around 11:20 a.m.

Cpt. Trevor  Forbes says no one was inside the building, which is believed to be privately owned and has been used for storage in recent years.

"There's still four walls and a roof but heavy fire damage in the interior," he said.

Crews extinguished the fire with the help of several neighbouring fire brigades.

No one was injured.

Forbes says they don't know what caused the fire. The Cobequid Fire Service and the province's fire marshal will be investigating.
