Five people face charges stemming from an altercation on the Bay St. Lawrence wharf in Cape Breton earlier this week.

One of the accused is charged with attempted murder.

Around 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Ingonish RCMP received a call about a group of five men with weapons fighting.

RCMP say the altercation started between two men but escalated. A witness told police that at one point, a man had been run over by a truck.

Jake Hector Mackinnon, 23, from Bay St. Lawrence is accused of:

  • Attempted murder,
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle,
  • Breach of probation,
  • Aggravated assault,
  • Two counts of assault with a weapon,
  • Mischief endangering life,
  • Breach of probation and failing to appear.

Eric Blaine McLellan, 23, also from Capstick is charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon,
  • Intimidation,
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
  • Breach of an undertaking.

William Simon Bonnar, 22, from St. Margarets Village faces these charges:

  • Assault with a weapon,
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Rocky Daniel Buchanan, 35, from St. Margarets Village is accused of:

  • Uttering threats
  • Breaching a conditional sentence order.

Frank Andrew Mackinnon,18, from Bay St. Lawrence is charged with:

  • Mischief endangering life
  • Assault with a weapon and uttering threats.

RCMP say Frank Mackinnon was released and is scheduled to appear in Ingonish provincial court in September.

They say the other four men have been remanded into custody.

There’s no word on what weapons were involved.
