Halifax Regional Police are charging a 44-year-old man after an incident that involved an attack on a woman and a police officer. 

The call started with a report of a man attacking a woman in a vehicle near Dublin and Almon streets at 7:29 p.m. Tuesday.

Witnesses intervened, and the man driving the vehicle fled the area when the woman got out of the car. 

A man was later arrested in the area of St. Pauls street. In the process, police say one of their officers was assaulted.

The man faces two counts of assault, including one against the police officer, and a charge of resisting arrest.

Police say the man and woman involved know each other.
