An Annapolis Valley man has grown a 733-kilogram pumpkin, breaking the record for the heaviest one grown in Atlantic Canada.

Gerard Ansems, of Steam Mill, is a member of the Annapolis Valley Giant Vegetable Growers Association and entered his specimen at the association's weigh-off over the weekend.

The 72-year-old farmer said he'll enter another pumpkin — which he hopes is even bigger — at the Great Atlantic Weigh-off in Windsor this weekend.

Ansems' 733-kilogram pumpkin is 95 kilograms heavier than the previous record holder, grown by Jeff Reid in 2010.
