Amherst man accused of hitting woman with pipe, stabbing man
A 26-year-old Amherst man is accused of hitting a woman on the head with a pipe early Wednesday morning and then knifing a man little more than 14 hours later.
Amherst police say the suspect is due to appear in provincial court Thursday. He is facing charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, breach of probation, possession of a weapon and use of an imitation firearm.
The first assault happened around 2:48 a.m. outside a home on Prince Arthur Street, police say. The victim was taken to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, treated for her head injuries, and released.
Later in the day, just before 4 p.m., two men got into a fight in a parking lot off Prince Arthur Street.
Police say the victim was stabbed in his side and taken to hospital. Police did not release details of his injuries.
