Cape Breton MLA Alfie MacLeod’s left foot has been removed as a result of a serious infection.
The details of the infection haven’t been released, but MacLeod is expected to make a full recovery.
“I want to thank my constituents for their patience during this time,” he said in a news release. “Everyone’s kind words of support and encouragement have been very uplifting. I am committed to a full recovery and resuming my MLA duties as soon as possible. I look forward to seeing you all soon."
MacLeod’s office remains open with regular business hours during his absence.
MacLeod, 58, represents the district of Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg. He is receiving treatment at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.
