RCMP have released the name of a 19-year-old man whose body was recovered after he jumped into the water near the Lumsden Dam in the the Kings County area Friday.
Alex Kennedy Jones, better known to friends as AK Jones, died after jumping off a bridge into the water Friday evening off Black River Road.
He was last seen going into the water and came up to the surface, but went under again and did not surface.
Local fire rescue teams, the RCMP, Search and Rescue crews and the Underwater Recovery Team searched for the body.
Police divers found his body at around 9:15 p.m. Friday.
Fire Chief Kirk Fredericks said it's unclear what went wrong. "We don't know if he got caught on something, or panicked," he said.
Jones had just graduated from high school. Friends say he planned to one day run a graphics design firm he called Detox.
It's the first drowning in the water in 20 years. Jones will be remembered at a service Thursday in Kentville.
