Eight people from the Halifax area have been arrested after a three year investigation into fraudulent classified ads online.

Police received 300 complaints from people who said they had electronically sent money for event tickets and puppies, but never received what they purchased.

About $150,000 was lost. Investigators said complaints were recorded in every Canadian province and several places in the United States.

The Halifax Public Libraries said their public computers were used to carry out the scam.

The eight people were arrested on Wednesday. Police kept seven in custody.

The accused include Sarajane Hope Mansfield, Joshua Andrew Orde, Christian Stephen Orde, Bradley Charles Orde, Ashley Anna Goodwin, Heather Joy Orde and Charles Maxwell Orde.

They’re between the ages of 23 and 53.
