Summer may be over, but that doesn't mean it's time to hunker down at home. There are lots of activies going on in the city this weekend. Here's a sample of what you can do:

1. Celebrate the Common

It’s not too often you’re invited to a 250th birthday party. But the Halifax Common will be a hub of activity this weekend with concerts, circus performers and a potluck to mark its anniversary.

2. Check out the home and pet show

What’s a home without a pet? This year the Ideal Home Show is teaming up with a Pet show to exhibit everything from animal apparel to renovation tips. It’s taking place at Exhibition park.

3. Cheer on the Raptors

The Toronto Raptors are in town for a special exhibition game Saturday to help raise money for several groups. Kidsport Nova Scotia, the N.S. Hall of Fame, Feed Nova Scotia and Supporting Housing of Young Mothers of the YWCA will all benefit.

4. Tour a farm in Cole Harbour

It’s harvest time at the Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum. This weekend there are events planned to finish off the season. They’re offering demonstrations and home baked treats.

5. Vote

Advance polls are open. If you’ve made up your mind for the provincial election, why not avoid lines at the polls and vote now? Doors are open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
