5 fun things to do this weekend

Looking for something fun to beat the winter blahs? We have five fun things to look forward to this weekend.

Strap on your skates and head to Lower Sackville for free skating on the CBC

Sunday, please join the CBC at the Sackville Arena and get your skate on. Celebrate the 2014 Olympic Winter Games at a free community skating party. No charge to get in, but donations to Feed Nova Scotia will be accepted at the door. The fun starts at noon and runs til 3 p.m.

We just can’t get enough hockey these days. Friday night, head down to the Metro Centre and cheer on your Halifax Mooseheads. The Moose take on Shawinigan. The puck drops at 7 p.m.

Hockey’s not your thing? No problem. Saturday night, the Halifax Rainmen are in action against the Moncton Miracles. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. at the Metro Centre.

Sunday morning, head to the Emera Oval to watch the 2014 Skate the Common Marathon. Participants will compete in 5-kilometre, 10-kilometre and 25-kilometre skates. There is also a 3-kilometre sledge race. Registration is closed but fans are welcome. The fun starts at 8 a.m.

And here’s one guaranteed to take you back. If you loved Saturday in the Park, how about Chicago, Sunday at the Metro Centre. The band has been around since 1967, with sales of more than 100,000,000 and 21 Top 10 singles. Tickets are still available.
